The Mighty Max Monster Heads are even smaller than the Horror Heads. Skull Mountain seemed to have it all, making it one of the better selling large playsets. This is the largest set in the toy line, and it’s filled with features like a ‘skelevator,’ dragon lair, retracting bridges, a face-changing villain, weapons, a guillotine, and finally, a submarine bay. Another fan-favorite was the Mighty Max Castle, AKA – the Mighty Max Skull Mountain Volcano. Some of the more memorable large playsets include Mighty Max Terror Talons, which features alien-infested mega talons of some unworldly creature. Only four of the larger-sized playsets were released. The large sets often represent significant villains in the Mighty Max cartoon series. The larger Mighty Max playsets veered away from the compact Polly Pocket-sized sets and moved toward more playability with less portable but bigger toy sets. The set is a replica of Zantar, the dark jungle, and includes figures of the Ape King. It’s a perfect ending to a wonderful playset.– A jungle-inspired Doom Zone with the case resembling a mean-looking gorilla. Max doesn’t slay any dragon, Ripley finally finds someone to play with, and Crow gets some hard-earned peace and quiet. So now you know, the title of this post is totally misleading. He climbes upstairs into Crow’s study and his curiosity got the better of him. He demonstrates that he’s not called Mighty Max for nothing.īut as soon as he crosses the rope bridge, he finds more danger, more bones, and even a coffin in his size… He finds the rope and almost falls off the bridge in excitement. He tip-toes up the rocks towards the bridge. Max senses the danger and hides behind some rocks. Occasionally, she gets bored and pokes her head into Crow’s study. They look so adorable together!Ī few of her favorite activities are sitting in meditation on the bridge, hiding in the stalactite cave, and heating her behind on the volcanic chasm. Her favorite activity is to take a bath in the acid pool with Crow at her side. I’m naming her Ripley. There are some leftover bones in the cave, but Ripley wouldn’t let me show it. But I’m a pacifist, so the missing knife doesn’t bother me. But I’m going to call him Crow Daddy.Ĭrow weilds a knife, but the one I bought is broken. This set comes with three characters: a harmless looking Max (who looks as if he couldn’t even slay a dragonfly, let alone a dragon), an adorable looking green dragon, and a cloaked death figure named Ravendark. The chair looks especially fit for a hobbit.Īlso, the acid pool looks very cosy, too. As a book lover myself, I’ve always liked this little corner of tranquility. There are some design highlights that I especially love. I got creative and messed around with it, connecting the bridge to the library. So I made one myself out of wires and strings. I asked around online, but no one could sell me one. However, the set that I bought doesn’t have the plastic hook. Then, there’s a hook that connects the bottom and the top half. First, the stone between the white teeth is a stoney entrance that swings open. Plus, there are a few gimmicks and moving parts. The rocky hills and deep chasm designs allow many stories to flow from a child’s mind. I think the main reason is because the mold is very 3 dimensional. This playset was very magical and fun for me when I was a kid. The upper part showcases some more stalactite landscape, more bones, and a quaint little study complete with books and a comfy chair. The bottom part shows a dragon’s lair, some rocky terrain, a shaky bridge, and an acid pool with melting bones in it. The humorous dragon head opens to a very dramatic landscape. However, once you open the case, the rocky teeth gives it a very cute expression. It was the first of the eighteen Doom Zone sets, and more importantly, it is the first Mighty Max set I’ve ever gotten.Īt first glance, the design is that of a menacing dragon head. Here it is, in my opinion, the most iconic Mighty Max playsets. Since then, I have purchased a few more nostalgic Mighty Max sets, and this is one of them. It’s been a while since my last toy post.
